Is it true that pound land is opening in Hayle opposite asda
- Rob Bainborough Oh God I hope not, another shop full of landfill.
- Graham Coad No. Not Poundland.
- Graham Coad That's not a name I have heard in connection with that site, and as far as I know, details of which firm is negotiating with the owners of that site remain under "commercial confidentiality"
- Graham Coad It already had outline planning permission passed at the same time as the supermarket currently occupied by ASDA for one building with three shop units.
Hayle Town Council this week raised no objection to a change to one single shop in a slightly smaller building, so that goes to Cornwall Council for a decision. - Beryl Bez Smith Curran Why smaller Graham Coad?
- Ken Townend Where ASDA open a shop nowadays, H&M or Home Bargins seem to pop up near-by. Time will tell. Take it smaller building is for bigger car parking area!
- Graham Coad Well researched Ken, I have heard the same about those two stores following ASDA, but it has only been rumour and what has been observed in other places.
The size of the store is only slightly smaller than originally suggested.
Nothing is official until after Cornwall Council has decided yes or no, and contracts signed. - Beryl Bez Smith Curran But why. Why does it need to be smaller? What's your reason behind this decision?
- Graham Coad Not a council decision. The business hoping to get the site proposed a slightly smaller building. Their preference.
- Beryl Bez Smith Curran Thanks for explaining it was not HTC decision for smaller shop. I did wonder though at the change of heart as this was thrown out before.
- Graham Coad This time the application was accompanied with new information and better explanation. Some councillors had felt one bigger store would create more competition for the existing town centre, than the three smaller stores, but expert advice was that any difference was minimal, and had been taken account of in the original outline planning application.
- Andy Williams And the car park is going where
- Graham Coad The building is smallish, close to Foundry Lane and the BOXX Club, facing Penpol Creek, with the area in front a car park, same as was always proposed.
- Andy Williams So enough for about 20 cars then !! Sorry but there's not enough room for a business & customer parking on that site !!
- Graham Coad 61 car parking spaces plus customers can park at the ASDA car park or the Foundry Pay and Display.

- Beryl Bez Smith Curran One big shop is better then three empty units. Said that all along.
- Daniel Lees It will be a terrible if it's Poundland
- Graham Coad Read back over the early comments Daniel.
- Beryl Bez Smith Curran Don't really understand how some councillors thought that the one big store would create more competition for the town As we were told No one knew who was interested in the store Or what they would of been selling. Unless Someone did know.
- Graham Coad Councillors are their own people Bez, with their own ideas and views. Nothing is confirmed as I said above, its rumours and guesswork.
- Daniel Lees Graham Coad we will just have to wait and see.... Things always slip in under the radar! Heritage budget shops....
- Bill Bowen How the hell did they get outline planning permission on a conservation area/ 'World Heritage Site'???? Graham Coad
One rule for them.... - Tyrone Homes Yeah, Damn right Bill Bowen Conservation Areas and World Heritage Sites should be preserved as piles of rubble and empty falling down buildings. wink emoticon
- Bill Bowen You're missing the point Tyrone Homes. EVERYONE else in conservation areas has to submit full plans, not just a rough idea. That's the whole point of conservation!
I don't give a shit what happens really. Just takes the piss when all us 'normal people' have to conform and 'they' don't! - Bill Bowen And on that subject, that building behind Lidl looks mint!!!
- Patrick Kirkham If we have a store hear it might pay to put lights near the banks to help some people to cross to get to it and asda
- Tyrone Homes No. I think it is you who are missing the Point Bill Bowen. Reserved Matters, for example the layout, access, scale and appearance of the development, those things of most concern in Conservation or Heritage areas, still have to come before the council before permission for the actual development is given full approval.
- Graham Coad Bill Bowen......If a development is potentially so big and beneficial to a run down area as the original ING masterplan was it literally changes the rules, and general planning policies can be relaxed or even sidelined.
Even a domestic planning application can overcome the protections if it is of outstanding architectural merit! - Beryl Bez Smith Curran Well there you go. Money talks.
- Beryl Bez Smith Curran Now look I keep pushing for this. a great architectural design that Hayle needs. If not on land at the beach then maybe we can have it in Foundry.
- Bill Bowen Well, i've never heard of any domestic planning apps being relaxed in my 27 years in the trade Graham Coad. Certainly not when that idiot Penny Stokes was conservation officer! It's all bullshit anyway! There's no qualifications to become a conservatio...See More
- Claire Lean The idea of any sort of high street big branded shop makes me sick. It's bad enough that we have a whacking great big ASAD with nothing whatsoever attractive surrounding it, but then to have 1 or 3 heartless stores bang in the middle of Hayle too, will...See More
- Graham Coad Bill Bowen, What about the house on stilts at Angarrack, and some similar at Lelant Saltings, and the Bauhaus type flat roof house thing approved in the Phillack Conservation area (Not built yet). If it's by a fancy enough architect..........
- Daniel Lees You need large amounts money to get planning granted
- Graham Coad You need a darn good planning consultant too sometimes!
- Beryl Bez Smith Curran Where abouts are these flat roof things that You mention Graham Coad Planned for in Phillack?
- Bill Bowen I've dealt with them all Graham Coad! Money talks!
Anyway, same old same old on these topics. I know what goes on. So does every other local trade. Fortunately for me i'm gettin out of it. In a couple of years all that bullshit will be a distant memory!
In the meantime, i've got a War Memorial to move!!!! - Graham Coad Beryl One home, in on the left part way up the hill, in the gardens of Conservation Area cottages. Google Earth?
Beryl Bez Smith Curran Ok ta will take a look.
