Barclays Bank has confirmed two of its Cornwall branches in Hayle and Redruth will close next February.

The bank says that in Hayle the bank says it has only 117 regular customers who make transactions over the counter with a member of staff while in Redruth there are 181.

The way customers undertake their banking is changing as people increasingly use online, telephone and mobile devices as well as neighbouring branches to undertake their banking.

At Barclays Hayle branch, the number of transactions have gone down in the previous 24 months and 73 per cent of our branch customers are also banking online or by telephone. In the past 12 months 61 per cent of branch customers are already using alternative branches and we’ve identified that we have only 117 regular customers who solely use the counter.

At Barclays Redruth branch, 74 per cent of our branch customers also use other ways to do their banking such as online and by telephone. In the past 12 months, 54 per cent of branch customers have been using neighbouring branches and we’ve identified 181 regular customers who solely use the counter.

We hope that the availability of our other Barclays branches across Cornwall including St Ives, Camborne and Truro, access to services at the Post Office, along with our range of digital channels will help to ease the transition for our customers.
