200323 | Cornwall Council issues advice on dealing with coronavirus waste
Cornwall Council has issued advice for households which have suspected coronavirus infections for disposing of waste.
The authority has issued the new guidance for putting out rubbish to protect people and reduce the risk of spreading infection.
The council has suggested that waste, including tissues and cleaning cloths, should be double bagged and kept aside for three days before they are put outside for collection.
“Kerbside rubbish, recycling and garden waste collections are continuing as normal, and your household waste and recycling centre remains open at the usual times. Please continue to put rubbish and recyclables out for kerbside collection as you would normally.
“There is one exception, for households with possible coronavirus (COVID-19) infection there is guidance on how to manage your waste.
“Personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths should be stored securely within disposable rubbish bags. These bags should be placed into another bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste.
"This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put out for collection on your next collection day.
“Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.”
