Covid-19: cases doubling every nine days

Another 37 Covid-19 patients have been confirmed in Cornwall, bringing the latest rate per 100,000 to 47.6. This is in line with the national spread of the disease and means it is doubling approximately every nine days.

Professor Paul Elliott, of Imperial college, London, said: “We’re seeing a nation-wide increase in infection prevalence, which we know will lead to more hospitalisations and loss of life. We’re also detecting early signs that areas which previously had low rates of infection are following trends observed in the country’s worst-affected areas.”

The worst affected areas in Cornwall are currently the Rame peninsula, where there has been another outbreak at HMS Raleigh, near Torpoint. Towednack, Lelant and Carbis Bay also have a higher incidence than the national average.
