A business that supplies people with fresh bottles of milk has announced it is pulling out of Cornwall.

Milk & More, which serves 3,900 customers in the county, will be closing its distribution centre in Camborne at the end of this month.

It said that 15 workers have entered a consultation period ahead of any redundancies.

In a statement to CornwallLive, Milk & More said: “After we were served notice by our landlord to leave our distribution centre in Camborne, we conducted a detailed review of our business in Cornwall.

“Regretfully, we have concluded that it is no longer cost effective to operate in this region and we have decided to close the site by the end of December 2020.

“We have entered into consultation with our 15 colleagues at Camborne and have informed our customers, who are served from the site, by letter of our decision.

“We will do everything we can to minimise the impact to customers and have provided details of a website where customers can find information on alternative dairy suppliers.

“Milk & More currently serves 3,900 customers in Cornwall – which represents approx. 0.8% of our overall customer base.”

Customers should have received a letter by now informing them of Milk & More’s decision to pull out of Cornwall.

A letter from Milk & More seen by CornwallLive said: “Our lease at our Camborne distribution centre expires at the beginning of 2021 and although we have visited other possible sites in the area, we have not been able to find a suitable location that is cost effective to operate.

“Therefore, we have regretfully decided to close our business in Camborne, but the end of December 2020.

“This means that our last delivery to you will be either Wednesday, December 23, or Thursday, December 24, depending on your delivery pattern.

“These deliveries will also include any deliveries you would normally receive on a Friday or Saturday. This is due to us not delivering on Christmas Day or Boxing Day.

“For those of you who pay by Direct Debit, we would ask that you do not cancel your mandate with us, until the payment that is due for deliveries up to Saturday, December 26, has been collected in early January by us.

“If you pay us by credit/debit card via our call centre, you will receive one final bill from us that will need settling by Saturday, January 9, please.

“We will endeavor to collect any empty milk bottles that you have on either Tuesday, December 29, or Wednesday, December 30, so please leave them outside for collection.

“We appreciate that this is not the news you wanted to find out about in the run up to Christmas.

“If you wish to continue to have doorstep milk deliveries after Christmas, then you may find www.findmeamilkman.net useful in locating an alternative supplier.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your custom over the years and the support you have shown your local milkman and we wish you all the very best.”
