HAYLE FILM CLUB:
Hail, Caesar! Thursday July 21 at 7.30pm.
The final film this summer is the Coen Brothers' skit on the larger than life films and egos of Golden Age Hollywood. You live a day in the life of Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), a real-life ‘fixer' who used his contacts to cover up almost anything. First Baird Whitlock (a boozy mash up of Kirk Douglas and Clark Gable played by George Clooney), star of the biblical epic Hail Caesar, is kidnapped. Then Scarlett Johansson's DeeAnna Morgan, an Esther Williams-style starlet, announces she's pregnant with no ring on her finger. Mannix has to sort out these major headaches, and a host of smaller ones, using only the performers at his disposal and hounded all the way by twin journalists played by Tilda Swinton. (106 mins, 12A)
As ever, at the Passmore Edwards Institute, house lights down at 7.30pm. Tickets at £5/£4 for members, reserve on 01736 752319, or book online at www.haylefilmclub.org.uk
