Thousands of high-spirited visitors strolled around in sunglasses and T-shirts at the Royal Cornwall Show as the rain held off for a great day in Wadebridge. Visitors could have a go at bell-ringing, sample local cuisine and admire beautiful flowers. There really was something for everyone and the sunshine meant that visitors were able to stroll around, rather than running for cover under the nearest tent, to avoid the rain which was endured by many at the show on its first day. A man in his seventies was airlifted to hospital after falling from the Cornwall coastal footpath. Coastguards confirmed that the patient was a 77-year-old man who had been walking on the coastal path. The incident happened along the coast at Carbis Bay, near St Ives. The emergency services were alerted to the incident at 2.30pm on Thursday (June 8) and these images have now emerged. A mum has started a petition to get an old 1960s roundabout which was previously deemed safe by the authorities removed from a children's play park after her son was the second youngster to suffer a serious injury on it. St Austell has always been a traditional stronghold for the Liberal Democrats with the likes of David Penhaligon and Matthew Taylor having enjoyed strong support over the years. Security has been increased at the Royal Cornwall Show this year as a direct result of the recent terror attacks in London and Manchester. A drifter and prolific criminal from Cornwall has admitted carrying out a robbery and breaking into a hotel room while he was transferring from a train to a bus.
